Woman survives leap off Williamsburg Bridge, landing on SUV down on the street

A woman jumped off the Williamsburg Bridge and landed on this vehicle parked on Pitt Street. Pedestrians examine the smashed windshield where the woman landed.

A 34-year-old woman leapt off the Williamsburg Bridge Tuesday afternoon, landed on an SUV’s windshield — and survived the 20-to-30-foot plunge.

The woman was driving eastbound on the Williamsburg Bridge, when she suddenly stopped the car about 2:37 p.m., stepped out of the vehicle and jumped off the bridge, a source told the Daily News.

She landed on a parked Honda Ridgeline SUV on Pitt Street at the intersection with Delancey Street. A tipster told the Village Voice that the woman was “moving around slowly” after impact.

A witness told DNAinfo.com that the woman looked like a “rag doll” falling to the car.

“Then I said, 'oh my God, oh my God,'” crossing guard Aida Mercado told the website.

The impact left a large, round, cracked indentation on the passenger-side windshield of the SUV.

She was transported to Bellevue Hospital in serious condition. DNAinfo reports the woman suffered multiple trauma and was expected to survive.

The incident reportedly tied up traffic on the bridge in both directions.
