Police investigate chief Sephardi rabbi of Haifa for fraud

Rabbi Shlomo Shlush

The Chief Sephardi Rabbi of Haifa Shlomo Shlush was investigated last week by the Israel Police's anti-fraud unit on suspicion that he exploited his post in order to dole out favors to his close associates, police stated Thursday.

Police suspected that he awarded kashrut certificates to various factories in exchange for donations, and that he strong-armed kashrut supervisors to give up incriminating information against the rabbi's opponents.
