US Embassy In Bolivia Says Fears For Jacob Ostreicher Health

La Paz - As a Bolivian court today has once again postponed a bail hearing by lawyers for Jacob Ostreicher, officials at the United States Embassy have expressed their concern about the health of the jailed Brooklyn businessman.

According to reports on the South American news site Terra , Ostreicher has spent the last twelve days in a Santa Cruz clinic and has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.

“What concerns us is that, despite the fact that no evidence has been shown linking Jacob Ostreicher with any crime, he has been detained for eighteen months and it is taking a toll on his health,” said Larry Memmott, Charge d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Brazil.

The bail hearing, which was supposed to be held today based on newly uncovered evidence, was postponed until Friday by the Ministry of Government. Ostreicher’s lawyer, Yimy Montano, has made over twenty unsuccessful attempts to have his client freed on bail.
